Zia Azeez

Zia has more than 20 years experience in finance raising across a wide range of sectors in the energy and infrastructure space, with financing raised exceeding USD25 bn.

Zia currently heads the Power, Utilities and Infrastructure sector coverage for Asia at SMBC. Prior to the current role, Zia headed the Asian arm of SMBC’s multiple award-winning Project Finance (PF) team. Notably, Zia played a key role in setting up and establishing SMBC as a leading player in the renewables PF business in Asia.

Prior to joining SMBC, Zia worked at PWC where he advised the public sector on infrastructure projects. Prior to PWC, Zia worked in the Project Finance Advisory team at Fuji Bank (now Mizuho).

Zia has an MBA from Asian Institute of Management, Manila, and an undergraduate degree in Electrical  & Electronics Engineering from Regional Engineering College, Calicut, India.
