Dr. Natsuko Toba

Economist IFC, World Bank Group (WBG)

Dr. Natsuko Toba is an Economist at International Finance Corporation (IFC) of the World Ban Group (WBG).  Dr. Toba is also an Associate Researcher of the University of Cambridge Energy Policy Research Group (EPRG).

Dr. Toba has over 22 years of professional experiences in (i) investment projects, (ii) policy, regulation, technical assistance, research, analysis and evaluation and (iii) independent evaluation (at the Independent Evaluation Group of WBG) mostly focused on energy and climate change, as well as other infrastructure sectors, environment and natural resources.

Prior to IFC, Dr. Toba was a Senior Economist as well as a consultant at the World Bank (WB). Dr. Toba raised and managed the highest funding for Asia Sustainable and Alternative Energy Program (ASTAE) of WB in its history, which was US$24 million for the four-year multi-donor trust fund (MDTF) (FY2012-2015) compared to only US$34 million for the past 20 years since its establishment in 1992. As a result, ASTAE helped catalyze WB projects totaling over US$6 billion.

Before WB, Dr. Toba was an Economist and Poverty Reduction Specialist at Asian Development Bank (ADB) focused on the transport and energy sectors.

Dr. Toba has PhD in Economics at the University of Cambridge.
